TREND REPORT: The retro inspired pin-up trend is huge this spring. Not overtly sexy, these modern pin-up looks bring a certain softness and demure feeling. Think pastels, lace, oversize florals and satin.

 Prada Spring 2012
Rockabilly meets Veronica Lake. So love with this entire collection! The breathtaking satin bodysuits, the flirty pastel pleated colorblock dresses and kitschy 1950’s accessories and prints made it THE show that defined the season.

feb.mar.apr mood boards

Embarassingly long overdue: here are the february, march and april mood boards. Things have been pretty crazy these past few months but I’ve resolved to be more dilligent and consistent with my posts. For all that know me personally, posting anything on the internet (be it pics on facebook or posts on blogs) takes me a criminally long time lol sorzz.

Anyways, for February I focused on graphic midcentury black and white prints mixed with orange accents. Whether it was checkers, graphic florals or spots, anything that made a cool, bold statement caught my eye. As for March I looked at paisleys, a major trend this Spring. Everyone from Jil Sander, Stella McCartney, DVF and Jonathan Saunders are doing it. I love how surprisingly fresh it looks. Say goodbye to those folky, hippie associations! These paisleys are very chic. And for April (and practically everyday of my life lol) I landed on stripes. The ultimate classic print, stripes are always a summer staple. Clean and fuss-free, these stripes exude effortless cool.

vintage shopping in willie b.

Because of the holiday earlier this week, many of us were lucky enough to have a day off. While some stayed in to avoid the frigid temperatures, i decided to take a leisurely stroll over to williamsburg, which in my opinion, is one of the best neighborhoods in the city to uncover rare vintage gems. Needless to say, as a designer, I go mad for vintage. But its always been the past life and story that is embedded in every single vintage piece that enchants me. I try to imagine the people who wore these things and where they wore them. Perhaps that lovely pair of 1960’s pink satin pumps were worn on a first date in a smoky jazz club in the lower east side, or maybe that chic 60’s wool skirt was worn by a nervous young woman on her first day of university. Its a very romantic and whimsical notion but sadly these stories will remain hidden away forever, in all likelihood never to be revealed to us today.
